Uzbekistan is aiming to expand infrastructure for electric vehicles (EVs), with fast charging stations being installed at key locations along the tourist highways of the country and city centers. Reforms in this direction have been reflected in a recent decree inked by the country’s president Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The Ecological Fund is to allocate subsidies for the construction of the first 50 electric charging stations powered by photovoltaic plants, in the desert and steppe parts of highways.
As part of other green plans, a pilot project conducted in Nukus will rate water usage among households. The 20 apartments that consume water less than others over a year will be provided with solar panels free of charge. Another 20 apartment buildings, where more than 50% of the apartments used water sparingly, will receive an updated electrical system for their home.
The newly established Inspectorate of State Environmental Control under the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change until year-end will be committed to installing automated substations to monitor air pollution. By the end of 2024, it is planned to create an online environmental rating of regions, Eco-Indicator.uz, and create an environmental passport for each region. As part of this initiative, a nationwide waste collection, UzPlogging, will take place on July 1.
The procedure for leasing land plots included in the state forest fund will be changed as well. From 2024, they will be handed over strictly through the E-auksion online platform.
