Turkmenistan is ready to sign an agreement with Pakistan in the near future on the supply of cheap liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) through Afghanistan, The Nation (Pakistan) reports.
Turkmenistan's Ambassador to Islamabad Atajan Movlamov said this at a meeting with Pakistani business people. They discussed the pricing mechanism, transit fees and deliveries of liquefied gas through the Afghan route.
"We have offered to supply cheaper gas to Pakistan from the market," the diplomat said, adding that the agreement would be signed during the planned visit of the Turkmen delegation.
In early May, the first shipment of LPG from Turkmenistan arrived in Pakistan via Afghanistan's Kandahar province. This South Asian country is experiencing an acute fuel shortage and is seeking to diversify its supplies, which previously came mostly from Iran.
Pakistan also continues to believe in the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project, which is being discussed with the new Taliban government in Kabul, which came to power in August 2021.
