Turkmenistan's President Serdar Berdimuhamedov had a telephone conversation with U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry, local TV channel Altyn Asyr reports.
According to information, Ashgabat is considering joining the Global Methane Pledge.
More than 30 countries have joined the project to reduce methane emissions by 30% by 2030. Methane is a climate threat 80 times more powerful than CO2.
Turkmenistan is one of the key energy suppliers in the region. The fuel and energy sector accounts for most of the methane emissions caused by human activities.
Previously Daryo wrote that Turkmenistan and the US are planning to form a working group to reduce methane emissions and develop an investment plan this year.
