The newly appointed Russian ambassador to Ashgabat, Ivan Volynkin, has assured that he will contribute to building a fruitful Turkmen-Russian partnership of a strategic nature, local TV channel Altyn Asyr reports. The diplomat said this during the presentation of credentials to Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
Good results have been achieved in the oil and gas sector, as well as in areas such as the automotive industry, shipbuilding, air transport, gas chemistry and other industries, the TV report said.
About 200 companies with Russian capital are registered in the local market, including KAMAZ, Tatneft, Vozrozhdenie, Gazprom.
Inter RAO, Power Machines, United Shipbuilding Corporation and Lukoil are negotiating contracts with the Turkmen partners.
Last year, the bilateral trade turnover made up $865mn and in the first quarter of this year the mutual trade turnover increased by 45%. These figures do not take into account Turkmen gas supplies, which were resumed in 2019.
Russia also imports textiles, food, chemicals and rubber from Turkmenistan. The main items of Russian exports to Turkmenistan are machinery, equipment and vehicles, food products, metals and metal products.
