Turkmenistan and the European Union have exchanged views on attracting foreign investment in strategically important sectors of the local economy. Turkmenistan's Foreign Ministry reports that the delegations met in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on the margins of the EU-Central Asia Economic Forum.
Turkmenistan's Minister of Economy and Finance, Serdar Djorayev, met with the European Commission's Executive Vice-President for Trade and Economy, Valdis Dombrovskis.
Talks were also held with Pamela Coke-Hamilton, Executive Director of the International Trade Centre.
Parties discussed prospects for cooperation in transport, infrastructure, "green energy", agriculture and the oil and gas sector, the information said.
European Parliament has not yet ratified Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) with Turkmenistan, so bilateral ties have been governed by the Interim trade agreement.
An office of the EU delegation opened in Ashgabat in 2019 to take relations with Turkmenistan to a qualitatively higher level. In the summer of 2023, a delegation from the European Parliament is scheduled to visit Turkmenistan.
Europe hopes to receive Turkmen gas via the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, and Turkiye. A memorandum on energy cooperation was signed in 2008.
