The World Health Organization (WHO) has revoked the state of emergency proclaimed in August 2022 in response to a monkeypox epidemic.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the WHO Director-General, made the announcement when the Emergency Committee proposed that the Public Health Emergency of International Concern be declared over. A total of 87,000 infections and 112 fatalities in 110 countries as of May 2022 were recorded. The WHO assessed the fatality rate at 3-6%.
The organization proclaimed an outbreak of emergency in July 2022, but the organization's director indicated a decrease in the number of illnesses in October of the same year.
