The fire on the mountainside near Medeu reportedly started on May 7 at midnight. The forest is on fire, which is still being extinguished. Firefighter-rescuer Arslan Zholdasbekuly died while on duty, Daryo correspondent from Kazakhstan reports.
The press service of the emergency department said that the man in question was born in 1994 in the Almaty region. He worked in the ranks of firefighters and rescuers for 8 years.
“The Ministry of Emergency Situations expresses its deepest condolences to the families and friends of Arslan Zholdasbekovich. The good memory of him, as a professional in his field, will forever remain in our hearts. Arslan was a responsible employee, a professional fighter, and a competent specialist. At work, he was valued for diligence, fairness, and love for the profession,” the Department of Emergency Situations said.
About a hundred rescuers are working at the scene. Two helicopters are said to be involved. The preliminary fire area is about 3 hectares.
