On May 11-13, the 5th Film Forum of Women Directors will be held in Osh, Kyrgyzstan. More than 50 applications from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan were received for presenting feature films and documentaries. The commission selected 14 films, 11 of them from Kyrgyzstan, two participants from Kazakhstan and one participant from Uzbekistan.
As part of the film event, which is dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Kyrgyz Soviet director Lila Turusbekova, master classes will be held by guests from Kazakhstan, Korea, and Turkey, as well as a discussion club.
Within the framework of the event, the national premiere of the documentary film "Үrkör, үrkör, uch zhyldyz, үrkүp kayda barasyn" directed by Janyl Zhusupzhan will take place which was jointly produced by Kyrgyzstan and France.
The purpose of the film forum is to support and unite women directors in Kyrgyzstan, Central Asia, and CIS, as well as create conditions for the exchange of ideas, and introduce young filmmakers to the public. The forum also aims to raise the status of women in the cinema of the region to the international level and draw public attention to gender issues in the country.
