Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen inaugurated his country's permanent embassy in Ashgabat after meeting Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
Israel has had an ambassador in Turkmenistan for ten years, but he has worked in hotels and a temporary office.
Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov attended the diplomatic mission office opening ceremony in the capital's Berkarar business center.
The Israeli minister said Tel Aviv sees prospects for cooperation with Ashgabat in areas such as "agriculture, water management, economy, energy, border protection, regional security, education".
Cohen was the first Israeli minister to visit the Central Asian state in 30 years. In 1999, then-Foreign Minister Shimon Peres visited Ashgabat three years after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Daryo previously wrote that Israel's new ambassador to Turkmenistan, 51-year-old Ishmael Khaldi, recently presented his credentials at the presidential palace. He has earlier worked in the US, Britain, and Eritrea and is the first Bedouin diplomat in a Jewish state.
