Team Turkmenistan is in third place at the ongoing Hockey World Championship (Third Division) in Group A, Cape Town, South Africa.
The team from Ashgabat defeated Luxembourg 4-1 on Wednesday. The goals were scored by Arslan Nuryev (8th minute), Pavel Barkovsky (28th), Arslan Geldymuradov (31st), and Dovlet Khydyrov (37th).
Previously, Ashgabat lost to South Africa (6-9). A game with Thailand is scheduled for April 20, and one with Taiwan is scheduled for April 23.
Turkmen hockey players are two-time World Championship bronze medallists in the third division.
Hockey began to develop in sunny Turkmenistan in 2011 on a presidential decree. Six years later, the national team won miniature gold medals at the second league tournament at the 2017 Asian Winter Games in Sapporo, Japan.
