Gazprom bought about 5bn cubic meters of gas from Turkmenistan last year under a contract concluded in 2019.
Russian ambassador to Ashgabat Alexander Blokhin told TASS news agency on April 20.
"We have a contract with Turkmenistan until 2024; it was prolonged last year. The total volume of supplies to Russia is fixed in the contract - about 5bn cubic meters for 2022," the diplomat said.
Blokhin added that negotiations on creating underground gas storage facilities in Turkmenistan are underway.
After a three-year break, Gazprom signed the last five-year contract with state concern Turkmengaz. The Russian partner imported 10bn cubic meters of gas from Turkmenistan in 2021, as it re-exported additional quantities to Uzbekistan. In December 2022, Tashkent agreed with Ashgabat on direct deliveries.
Gas is supplied to Gazprom through the Central Asia-Centre (CAC) pipeline, built during Soviet times, and transits from Turkmenistan through Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
After losing a sizable market in Europe, Gazprom is seeking new markets and wants to reverse CAC to export its production through Turkmenistan to Iran and Turkey.
