Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Vepa Hajiyev held a telephone conversation with Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Arms Control, Verification, and Compliance at the U.S. Department of State Mallory Stewart, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reports.
The parties paid particular attention to the process of implementing the 2011 Vienna Document 2011 on confidence- and security-building measures, the statement said.
The Vienna Document was adopted within the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), and all Central Asian countries adhere to it.
Participating states exchange information about their armed forces, personnel, and major weapon and equipment systems each year. Within the framework of this document, study visits between OSCE participating states can raise awareness of national defense planning procedures.
Daryo previously wrote that Turkmenistan was preparing for military tactical maneuvers. Turkmenistan's army is considered the third most powerful among the five states of Central Asia after Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. This is according to a report by the think tank Global Firepower 2023.
Ashgabat has maintained a status of positive neutrality since 1995, with a defensive military doctrine, and is not a member of any military-political bloc.
