The thirty-ninth plenary session of Uzbekistan's Senate considered the laws 'On the ratification of the military collaboration agreement between the governments of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan (Tashkent, dated June 21, 2022)' and 'On the ratification of a military-technical cooperation agreement between the governments of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan (Tashkent, dated June 21, 2022)'.
The two agreements were inked within the framework of the state visit of Azerbaijan's President, Ilham Aliyev, to Uzbekistan and aimed at developing bilateral ties in the military, military-technical, military-educational spheres, and other areas of mutual interest.
According to senators, the bilateral agreements would give a new impetus to strengthening ties and regional security.
Senators approved the laws.
Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan have been strengthening their military cooperation in recent years. For instance, in 2018, the Defense Ministers of both countries signed a memorandum of understanding to deepen cooperation in military education, joint exercises, and military technology.
