Environmental lawyer and anti-vaccine activist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has taken a step towards running for president in 2024 by filing paperwork with the Federal Election Commission as a Democrat, CNN reports.
The US Federal Election Commission accepted Kennedy's documents. The TV channel reports that John Sullivan, treasurer of Robert Kennedy's staff, confirmed that the application was submitted.
Robert Kennedy Jr. is 69 years old. He is the son of Robert Kennedy, who was a senator from the state of New York from 1965-1968 and former US Attorney General (1961-1964). The elder Robert Kennedy is the brother of former US President John F. Kennedy, who was shot dead in Dallas in 1963. Like his brother, Robert Kennedy was shot during the election campaign.
Kennedy Jr. is known for promoting discredited claims about vaccines and autism and founding the anti-vaccine organization Children’s Health Defense. He has also criticized the federal government’s handling of the pandemic. Kennedy Jr. will make an official announcement of his candidacy in Boston on April 19.
