Tashkent city administration on March 3 explained the massive flooding of streets and courtyards due to rain. Two hours of rain the day before caused a collapse of storm drains throughout the city. The administration referred to the inability of the existing drainage networks of Tashkent to cope with torrential rains.
'The average diameter of the trays in Tashkent is 300 mm. They deliver rainwater to collectors and canals. A 2-hour heavy rainfall on April 2 resulted in 20 mm of rain, a third of the April total of 60 mm. Since the floodgates were not designed to receive such a large flow at one time, water accumulated in several settlements in our city. To quickly eliminate this situation, more than 500 employees and more than 100 pieces of special equipment of the Tashkent City Development Department and its district departments, communal sector systems, the Emergency Situations Department, and the General Department of Internal Affairs were involved until 23:00 eliminated', the message reads.
