A Manhattan district grand jury voted on March 30 to indict Donald Trump in a criminal case, The New York Times reports, citing four sources.
Prosecutors have reportedly contacted the ex-president's lawyers to agree on a time to arrest the politician. Trump's defenders say it could happen next week. Trump is expected to be arrested, photographed, and fingerprinted, after which a judge will decide what kind of restraining order to impose on him. This is the first time in the history of the United States that a current or former president of the country has been criminally charged.
Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida(Trump's home state), said the state would not respond to an extradition request by New York prosecutors.
The details of the charges will be announced in a few days by the decision of the district prosecutor. According to information, the former US president is accused of a serious matter - paying off former actress Stormy Daniels $130 000 to keep quiet before the 2016 Presidential elections.
The politician denied contact with Daniels and refused to comment on the allegations. In response to a New York Times inquiry, Trump called the case against him politically motivated. Citing two sources familiar with the case, CNN reports that there are more than thirty fraud charges in the case against Trump.
