On February 28, the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan convened an online meeting to hear the annual reports by imams, deputy imams, and mudarris of mosques criticizing their not “conscientious” duty approach.
The head of the Board, Mufti Nuriddin, sacked several imams. They are Fatullayev Abdusalam, deputy chief imam of Surkhondarya region, Hafizullo Zayniyev, chief imam of Kumkurgan district of Surkhondarya region and imam of Shah Mashrab mosque, Ablokhlov Habibulla, chief imam of Okdarya district of Samarkand region, and Shavot of Khorezm region. Rozmetov Davronbek, imam-khatib of Khoroz Eshon Baba mosque were released from their duties.
Last year, 25 imam-khatib, 19 imam-deputy and 2 muhtasib were removed from their positions in 2022 due to errors and shortcomings in their work, and 56 imam-khatib and imam-deputy were given disciplinary measures.
