The violent paedophiles proven to be psychologically unstable should be castrated, MP Bobur Bekmurodov tweets on his page. However, his colleague, Odiljon Tojiev, opposed this idea, saying that the issue needs careful consideration.
"No matter how long the sentences are increased, the risk of recidivism remains. If a 20-year-old man becomes a paedophile, he will be 35 after 15 years of sitting. He is still prone to repeat this again. Pedophilia is a disease," Bekmurodov writes.
"I think it is enough if he serves the term of the sentence from the beginning to the end," the deputy’s opponent said.
Bekmurodov added that the practice of physical mutilation is not applicable to everyone.
Odiljon Tojiev continued to oppose the "sharp" proposal of the chairman of the "Yuksalish" nationwide movement, writing:
"A criminal who knows that he will receive such an additional punishment will try harder to hide his guilt. As a result, the life of the victim may be in danger."
According to Bobur Bekmurodov, paedophilia is a serious disease and it has been confirmed by the World Health Organization. A sex offender also has no control over what he is doing and will most likely continue to commit crimes over and over again.
On January 31 of this year, the body of a 12-year-old girl with signs of violence and murder was found in the Yangihayot district of Tashkent city.
On February 27, the parliamentary faction of the "National Revival" party discussed the draft law "On amendments and additions to some legal documents of the Republic of Uzbekistan in connection with the further improvement of the system of reliable protection of the rights, freedoms and legal interests of women and children."
