President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on August 9, the press service of the Uzbek leader reported.

Mirziyoyev congratulated the Azerbaijani president and people on the historic event — the signing of a peace declaration between Azerbaijan and Armenia in Washington on August 8. He expressed confidence that the early formal signing of a comprehensive peace agreement would play an important role in ensuring stability and prosperity in the South Caucasus.
The two leaders also discussed the outcomes of Mirziyoyev’s state visit to Azerbaijan in July, underlining the importance of strengthening the bilateral strategic partnership and alliance.
According to the Uzbek side, trade turnover between the two countries has grown by 30% since the start of the year. Work is underway on joint projects outlined in the bilateral “Roadmap,” including initiatives in the oil and gas sector under a Product Sharing Agreement.
Plans for upcoming high-level meetings and events were also reviewed.
Additionally, Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also welcomed the peace declaration, signed by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Washington in the presence of U.S. President Donald Trump.
The declaration highlighted the urgency of finalizing and ratifying a peace treaty, restoring regional ties, and establishing a transport corridor between Azerbaijan’s main territory and its Nakhchivan exclave via Armenia along the border with Iran.
