Economic indicators of Central Asian states are assessed based on satellite nighttime lights system (NTL), the Institute of Forecasting and Macroeconomic Research reports.
The spatial image of the NTL backgrounder is a type of information used in the assessment of economic indicators of regions.
It helps to form an idea about the population of the country's regions, its density, the location of production forces, and the economically active part of the country's territory.
It is based on the results of reproducing the night light image taken from the satellite in 63 different colours.
In December 2021, the level of illumination at night was 47.2% in Uzbekistan, 11.8% in Kyrgyzstan, 15.5% in Kazakhstan, 37.5% in Turkmenistan, and 64.4% more in Tajikistan compared to 2016.
In the same comparison, GDP increased by 27.3 percent in Uzbekistan, 7.8 percent in Kyrgyzstan, 14.9 percent in Kazakhstan, 35.2 percent in Turkmenistan, and 41.1 percent in Tajikistan which makes Kazakhstan the Leader in terms of GDP and the level of NTK backgrounder.
Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan hold the next second and third positions respectively. Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are in the last places in terms of the amount of GDP and the level of night light.
