According to USDA analysts, wheat consumption in Uzbekistan may reach 8.5 million tons in 2022-2023 which is almost 1% higher than the previous season making the most populous CA state the largest consumer of wheat in the region, ‘Apk Inform’ reports.
In the new season, the forecast for Uzbekistan is almost 37% higher than Kazakhstan's domestic consumption (6.2 million tons). Kazakhstan is traditionally an exporter of both wheat and wheat flour.
In 2022-2023, exports of wheat and flour from Kazakhstan may reach 8.0 million tons of grain equivalent, while exports from Uzbekistan are projected at only 1.5 million tons.
According to the analyst, if next season Uzbekistan and Afghanistan will be able to produce 78% and 57% of the planned wheat consumption, Kazakhstan will receive only 48% of the expected domestic grain harvest.
