The State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan reports on industrial production in January-May 2022.
According to the Committee, the Republic has produced 2 million tons of coal since the beginning of the year with 440 000 in April and 470 000 tons in May respectively.
70,000 tons of oil were produced in May, and 317.9 thousand tons in the first 5 months of 2022. Compared to the same period last year, production in the industry decreased by 12.2 thousand tons.
In January-May, more than 22 billion cubic meters of natural gas and 555,000 tons of gas condensate were produced. Compared to the same period last year, production in both industries decreased by 310 million cubic meters and 12.8 thousand tons, respectively.
In May, more than 4 billion cubic meters of natural gas and about 100,000 tons of gas condensate were produced.
Meanwhile, the end of coal-fired power generation may prevent 14.5 million premature deaths from air pollution by 2050 and generate up to $ 16.3 trillion in economic benefits which is a great opportunity to improve air quality.
Polluted air is a major health complication worldwide, with 1 in 9 deaths due to bad weather. Approximately 6.7 million deaths from air pollution in 2019 were observed.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) estimates that the uninterrupted use of coal in the energy sector should be reduced by 55% by 2030 and stopped altogether by 2040.
According to a new study by the International Institute for Sustainable Development, it is unlikely that oil, gas and coal production will end by 2050.
Asian countries plan to completely stop coal production by 2037.
Coal-fired power plants contribute to this problem by emitting pollutants such as primary particles, such as PM2.5, as well as sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides, which form secondary particles.
These microparticles pass through the lung barrier and into the bloodstream. This can lead to adverse effects on the cardiovascular system and direct respiratory illness.
