The Russian Snow Service has unveiled plans to invest $300mn in the construction of a sprawling mountain resort in Shakhrisabz, press service of the Qashqadaryo city administration (khokimiyat) reports.
The announcement follows discussions between the Khokim of the Qashqadaryo region, Murotjon Azimov, and representatives from Snow Service and the Gordeev architectural bureau.
The ambitious project, spanning 2,600 hectares in the village of Gelon, aims to transform the region into a prominent tourist destination. The proposed completion of the first phase is set for December 2026.
Key components of the resort include three cable cars, three and five-star hotels, multi-storey parking facilities, a zip line, a rodelbahn, and various other amenities to cater to tourists.
Earlier Daryo reported that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has sanctioned the creation of two tourist zones in Uzbekistan's Qashqadaryo region. The first, the Shakhrisabz tourist center, will occupy 240 hectares near the city, encompassing a hotel, guest houses, health, entertainment facilities, and service amenities. In the Kamashi district, the Maydanak-Vysokogorny tourist center, covering 58.6 hectares, will include a hotel, sanatorium, cable car, ski resort, and recreational amenities.
