The decree, issued under the State Program for implementing the "Uzbekistan - 2030" Strategy in the Year of "Environmental Protection and Green Economy," launches the nationwide movement "One Million Green Families." The initiative aims to promote eco-friendly lifestyles and instill sustainable habits among the population.
The movement encourages several eco-conscious practices, including:
- Promoting a healthy lifestyle with regular exercise and balanced nutrition,
- Encouraging the use of "green transport," such as bicycles,
- Reducing plastic consumption,
- Preventing food waste,
- Efficient use of water, gas, and electricity,
- Implementing waste sorting systems.
By June 1, 2025, the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change and the Ministry of Digital Technologies must launch a digital platform to support the movement. Citizens actively following environmental principles in daily life will be awarded "Eco-Active Citizen" status, granting them a 10% discount on government services and preferential rates on consumer loans.
Additionally, families where all adult members achieve this status will be designated as a "Green Family," with 14 electric cars distributed annually through an open competition. In neighborhoods where at least half of the households earn the "Green Family" status, contests such as "Cleanest Neighborhood" and "Greenest Neighborhood" will be held. The winners will receive UZS 500mn ($38,506) to enhance local infrastructure, including road repairs, energy-efficient lighting, playgrounds, green spaces, and waste management systems.
Minister of Ecology Aziz Abdukhakimov, Minister of Digital Technologies Sherzod Shermatov, and regional leaders have been tasked with ensuring the effective and timely implementation of the initiative.
