The Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) held a seminar in Ashgabat to present innovative experiences in improving the investment climate and developing the capital market.
The aim of the event was to promote the exchange of best practices in attracting direct investment and building an effective securities market infrastructure.It discusses the securities market, its infrastructure, financial technologies and corporate governance in joint-stock companies, as well as green financing instruments.
Participants included officials from the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the Ministry of Justice, the Ashgabat Stock Exchange, state and commercial banks and brokers.
International experts stressed the importance of foreign direct investment for development in terms of maximizing benefits and minimizing costs and elaborated on investments in infrastructure and energy sector.
"The OSCE recognizes the importance of creating a favorable business environment for countries seeking to attract investment and develop their private business sector, as well as to ensure economic security,” said John MacGregor, Head of the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat.
This can be achieved, among other things, by promoting institutional and human capacity and strengthening the financial infrastructure, he said.
Turkmenistan became a member of the OSCE in 1992. A number of major international forums have been held in Ashgabat under the auspices of the OSCE, including on energy security.
