The regular meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will be held in Ashgabat (Turkmenistan) on 24 May 2024, local TV channel Altyn Asyr reports.
Turkmenistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov reported on preparations for the event at a cabinet meeting. A briefing is planned for 20 May at the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.
"In implementing the foreign policy course of neutral Turkmenistan, great importance is attached to fruitful cooperation with the CIS countries".
Earlier it was reported that the plenipotentiaries of the CIS member states are discussing, among other things, the implementation of the roadmap for security cooperation.
In 2005, Ashgabat officially decided to participate in the CIS structure as an associate member, citing Turkmenistan's status of permanent neutrality. In 1999, Turkmenistan withdrew from the visa-free regime agreement with the CIS countries.
