A two-day international forum on attracting foreign investment in Turkmenistan's energy sector has begun in Paris (France) at the Hyatt Regency Paris Étoile. The event was organised by the state concerns "Turkmengaz", "Turkmenneft" and the corporation "Turkmengeologiya" with the support of the British company GaffneyCline.
President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov sent his address to the participants.
"The International Forum will allow us to discuss the problems of developing hydrocarbon deposits, prospects for exporting "blue fuel" through gas pipelines and priorities for investment in the geochemical sphere".
According to the message, Turkmenistan intends to improve the competitiveness of products manufactured by the oil and gas complex and to follow the requirements of environmental safety in the development of hydrocarbon resources.
The country has joined the Global Methane Pledge, which was officially announced last year at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP-28) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Berdimuhamedov said the country plans to intensify the dynamics of international cooperation to develop oil and gas fields in the Turkmen section of the Caspian Sea on the basis of Production Sharing agreements.
Priority tasks include the development of the Galkynysh gas deposit and the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, the successful completion of which will support regional energy security.
The event's agenda will include sessions on:
'Turkmenistan's role in the future of world energy', 'Prospects for natural gas production in the energy transition',
'Reducing Methane and Carbon Dioxide Emissions from Hydrocarbon Production and Alternative Energy Sources',
Commodities for the energy transition: new trends and investment opportunities,
The role of financial institutions in promoting clean energy and modern infrastructure projects,
'Accelerating the process of attracting investment into new Turkmenistan projects in the field of construction, gas chemistry, transport and communications'.
The organisers emphasise in a press release that "among the main factors of Turkmenistan's growing attractiveness for foreign investors are the stable economic and political situation in the country, as well as a reliable legislative framework and state guarantees".
Turkmenistan ranks fourth in the world in terms of proven natural gas reserves after Russia, Iran and Qatar. China is the largest buyer of Turkmen gas, which is also purchased by Russia and Uzbekistan. Ashgabat is exploring export opportunities to South Asia and the Caucasus, as well as Turkey, Iraq and Europe.
