The UK is one of Turkmenistan's most important partners in the European region, local TV channel Altyn Asyr reports. Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who received British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs David Cameron in Ashgabat, said.
"Interstate relations are constantly developing on the basis of mutual respect, friendship and mutual understanding." The interlocutors noted the dynamic development of bilateral trade turnover.
Oil and gas industry, agriculture and new technologies were identified as promising areas of co-operation. "As noted, British companies are supported for effective business in the Turkmen market."
According to the parties, it is advisable to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the Turkmen-British Trade and Industry Council.
One of the topics discussed was climate change and its detrimental effects on human life. Turkmenistan joined the Global Methane Pledge last year.
During the meeting, it was stressed that "Turkmenistan's foreign policy adheres to the legal status of permanent neutrality, twice recognised by special resolutions of the UN General Assembly".
Berdimuhamedov also noted that he "warmly recalls his working visit to the United Kingdom to attend the coronation ceremony of King Charles III of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and his consort Queen Consort".
Experts told Daryo that companies such as De La Rue, Dragon Oil, Gaffney, Cline & Associates and JCB have established themselves in the local market. UK Export Finance, a government organisation, has previously said it would like to expand its targeted partnership with Turkmenistan.
