Ashgabat hosted a meeting of the Government commission to consider issues related to Turkmenistan's accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reports that during the meeting the sides exchanged views on expanding cooperation with the organisation's secretariat. The participants emphasized the importance of active interaction with the WTO in the context of the implementation of the Programme for the development of Turkmenistan's foreign economic activity.
Turkmenistan has started negotiations to join the WTO in February 2022.
Experts told Daryo that Turkmenistan is now working on the Memorandum on Foreign Trade Regime. The submission of this document is one of the conditions for joining the WTO.
WTO experts are discussing with the Turkmen side such issues as import and export tariffs and schedules of concessions, other duties and levies, charges for services rendered and domestic taxation; quantitative restrictions on imports, including bans, quotas and licensing systems, as well as tariff quotas.
The meetings also cover import and export licensing procedures; customs valuation and pre-shipment inspection; rules of origin; trade facilitation; subsidies and subsidy notifications; trade remedies; and trade rights.
