A sub-regional capacity building training for Port Control Unit (PCU) officers from Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan was held at the Lebap Regional Customs Office in Turkmenistan.
The State Customs of Turkmenistan reports that the event was held under the auspices of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime and the World Customs Organisation's (WCO) Global Container Control Programme.
"The training was organised to enhance theoretical knowledge in the areas of profiling and targeting of high-risk cargo and detection of illicit shipments, risk analysis, detection of seal tampering and document and cargo verification techniques".
The seminar programme also included aspects of intellectual property from a customs perspective, the WCO secure information exchange platform and the provisions of the 1972 Customs Convention on Containers.
Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan share a border of approximately 1,700 km, along which the main border crossing points are located at Dashoguz-Shavat and Kunya-Urgench-Khodzheyli.
