In response to growing concerns over environmental challenges in Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has announced new measures aimed at incentivizing the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs). These measures, designed to promote eco-friendly transportation options, include discounts on the registration fees for electric cars.
Environmental issues have become a focal point of public discourse in Uzbekistan, prompting concerted efforts by the government to tackle pollution, promote green energy initiatives, and safeguard the environment. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, authorities have undertaken comprehensive measures to enhance environmental sustainability across the country.
Incentivizing Green Transportation
As part of these efforts, the government has introduced concessions to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles among the population. Effective from April 1, 2024, discounted registration fees will be applied to electric cars, motor vehicles, and trailers powered by green energy sources.
Under the new fee structure, the registration and re-registration fees for electric cars and associated vehicles will be set at 1.5 times the minimum wage, totaling UZS 510,000 ($40). In contrast, registration fees for other motor vehicles, excluding electric cars, will be charged at a rate of 6.84 times the base calculation amount.
Earlier, it was reported that a business communications specialist disclosed on LinkedIn that the number of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in Uzbekistan skyrocketed from a mere three in 2020 to an impressive 450 in 2024. He attributed this growth to the overall expansion of the EV market in the country.
