During the recent UNESCO General Assembly convened in Paris, a momentous decision was officially endorsed, marking the designation of Samarkand as the venue for the upcoming 43rd session scheduled for the year 2025, Nigoh reports.
This announcement emphasizes a significant departure from the convention of hosting the General Assembly exclusively in Paris. The last occasion when the Assembly convened outside the French capital was back in 1985, with Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, having the honor of hosting the prestigious event.
“This is a diplomatic success,” commented the chairman of the 42nd session, Simona-Mirela Miculescu, on the decision.
Earlier in September, Saida Mirziyoyeva, the assistant of the President of Uzbekistan announced her delight at the news of Uzbekistan's application to host the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand, Uzbekistan in 2025.
"I am pleased to announce that Uzbekistan is ready to host the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand in 2025! If our proposal is approved, this historic event could change the more than 40-year tradition of holding UNESCO sessions exclusively in Paris," stated Saida Mirziyoyeva.
In the same news, she also shared that an exhibition titled "Abu Reyhan Biruni: Geographic and Intellectual Travels" was opened at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. The project was dedicated to the 1050th anniversary of the birth of the great scholar and thinker.
