For the first time in history, Kazakhstani fencers have clinched four licenses for the 2024 Olympic Games set to be held in Paris, as reported by Olympic.kz. This accomplishment follows the conclusion of the World Cup stage in Tbilisi.
Path to Victory
The path to Olympic qualification was paved through arduous battles on the fencing strip. Kazakh epee fencers vied for coveted spots against formidable opponents, with South Korea emerging as a crucial contender. The decisive moment arrived in the 1/8 finals, where the Koreans faced off against the Czech Republic. Despite their earlier dominance, the Koreans faltered, succumbing to defeat and relinquishing their bid for Olympic qualification.
Before the crucial World Cup stage in Tbilisi, Kazakhstan maintained a significant lead of 26 points over its closest rival in the ranking. The resounding victory in Tbilisi not only solidified Kazakhstan's position but also rendered them insurmountable for South Korea. With this triumph, Kazakhstan ascended to the pinnacle of the Asian ranking, excluding Japan, which had already secured a direct quota by virtue of its top-four placement in the list.
Historic Epee License
The acquisition of the epee license holds profound significance, marking a historic milestone for Kazakhstani fencing. Never before has the Kazakhstan team collectively graced the Olympic stage in fencing. The monumental achievement was made possible by the exemplary performances of Ruslan Kurbanov, Vadim Sharlaimov, Elmir Alimzhanov, and Erlik Sertai.
Earlier, it was reported that the inaugural World License Boxing Competition concluded in Busto-Arcitsio, Italy, with the Uzbekistan national team emerging as a notable achiever, securing five coveted tickets to the Paris-2024 Summer Olympic Games.
