In the event "Forest and Innovation - New Solutions for a Better World" held to mark the International Day of Forests, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Korea, Nurgali Arystanov, highlighted the burgeoning cooperation between Kazakhstan and South Korea in the realm of forestry, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan reported. Organized by the Korean Forest Service and the Asian Forestry Cooperation Organization (AFoCO), the event served as a platform to underscore joint efforts aimed at forest conservation and restoration.
Ambassador Arystanov commended the positive trajectory of collaboration between Kazakhstan, the Korean Forest Service, and AFoCO in areas such as forest management and restoration. At present, two collaborative projects are underway, focusing on the automation of forestry data collection and the enhancement of technologies for planting material production. Particularly lauded was the successful joint initiative of planting saxauls in the desiccated bed of the Aral Sea, showcasing the tangible outcomes of bilateral cooperation.
Discussions between Ambassador Arystanov and Nam Sung-hyun, Chairman of the Korean Forest Service, revolved around the potential establishment of a Regional Education and Training Center and an AFoCO Regional Representative Office in Kazakhstan. The Korean delegation expressed keen interest in broadening collaboration with Kazakhstan, signaling a deepening of ties in the forestry sector.
Furthermore, deliberations encompassed prospects for joint endeavors in combating forest fires and integrating cutting-edge technologies such as drones, artificial intelligence, and satellite monitoring systems for forest management. The exchange of expertise and technological know-how between the two nations promises to bolster forest conservation efforts significantly.
Kazakhstan's membership in AFoCO since 2019 underscores its commitment to regional cooperation in forestry management. Notably, a representative from the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan is stationed at the Secretariat of AFoCO, facilitating seamless coordination and engagement with the organization.
The timing of the event, coinciding with the Nauryz celebration, adds a symbolic layer to the discourse on forest conservation and restoration. Nauryz, a festivity emblematic of renewal and harmony with nature, resonates profoundly with the shared vision of preserving and nurturing the world's forests.
