The inaugural World License Boxing Competition concluded in Busto-Arcitsio, Italy, with the Uzbekistan national team emerging as a notable achiever, securing five coveted tickets to the Paris-2024 Summer Olympic Games.
Out of 113 participating countries, only Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan managed to secure five tickets each during the competition. Notably, the hosts claimed four licenses, while the Polish team secured three. Several other nations returned with two or one tickets, including Cuba with just one.
Australia Dominates Ticket Allocation
Australia dominates the ticket allocation for boxing matches with 12 representatives, comprising six men and six women, earning spots for Paris-2024. However, it's essential to recognize that Australia obtained licenses through a competition organized for the Oceania region, which sees minimal competition. Other leading teams in ticket acquisition are as follows:
- Brazil: 10
- Uzbekistan: 9
- France, Italy: 8
- Turkey, Kazakhstan, China: 7
Cuban Team Faces Crisis
The first World License Tournament highlighted the struggles of the Cuban boxing team, historically renowned for producing 41 Olympic Games champions. However, the team currently holds only four licenses for the Paris-2024 Games, indicating a period of crisis.
Following the tournament in Italy, the men's team has secured all seven tickets. Notably, no team has yet completed the plan in all men's weight classes. Meanwhile, the women's team has two passes to its credit, with four female boxers from Uzbekistan set to participate in the upcoming 2nd World License Tournament in Thailand, scheduled from May 23 to June 3.
