The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is concluding a series of workshops on climate change adaptation for decision-makers in Turkmenistan.
Topics discussed included the international legal frameworks, adaptation mechanisms, risk assessment tools and planning strategies for the short, medium, and long-term perspectives.
According to the press release, the event was held as part of the "Developing a National Adaptation Planning Process in Turkmenistan" project, implemented by UNDP with financial support from the Green Climate Fund (GCF).
"Climate change is a global threat that requires coordinated action in all sectors of the economy, especially in such critically important areas for Turkmenistan as water resources management and agriculture".
As part of the final workshop, participants visited a greenhouse farm in the village of Owadandepe Ak in the Bugday district of the Ahal region of Turkmenistan.
Experts told Daryo that there are plans to open a UN-supported centre for climate technologies in the Central Asian region in Ashgabat.
The ecology of the Aral Sea, prevention of desertification, protection of biodiversity and the environment, and sustainable water management are on the regional agenda.
