Turkmenistan plans to hold a business forum with the participation of small and medium-sized enterprises in Tokyo, Japan, on 27 March 2024, the newspaper Neutral Turkmenistan reports.
Deputy Prime Minister Batyr Atdayev told a government meeting that the event would focus on ways to develop bilateral cooperation in investment, industry, transport and logistics, and the private sector.
The forum will include a presentation of Turkmenistan's national pavilion project for the upcoming World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan.
Experts told Daryo that the impetus for business partnership between the two countries was given by former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's official visit to Ashgabat in October 2015, which resulted in the signing of agreements worth $18bn.
Japanese companies have implemented major projects in the gas chemical industry and gas turbine power industry, as well as supplied specialised equipment for projects in the fuel and energy complex, transport and water resources management.
Negotiations are currently underway to open an office of the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) in Ashgabat.
