Baku will host an exhibition starting March 17 at the Heydar Aliyev Center, showcasing the rich embroidery and sewing traditions of Uzbekistan. Organized by the Foundation for the Development of Culture and Art of Uzbekistan, the exhibition will feature 148 treasures, each a testament to the intricate craftsmanship and cultural diversity of the region.
Threads of History Woven into Tapestry
The exhibition offers visitors a captivating journey through Uzbekistan's diverse regions, with exhibits ranging from shimmering gold-embroidered chapans to exquisite suzani, meticulously crafted by skilled artisans. Each piece narrates a fascinating story, reflecting Central Asia's cultural heritage and artistic ingenuity.
Attendees will have the opportunity to admire a stunning array of suzani patterns originating from Tashkent, Jizzakh, Samarkand, and Bukhara. These intricate embroideries serve as windows into Uzbekistan's vibrant cultural tapestry, highlighting the mastery of traditional craftsmanship passed down through generations.
Mesmerizing Jewelry Collection
In addition to textiles, the exhibition will feature a dazzling array of jewelry crafted by ancient masters from Samarkand, Bukhara, and Karakalpakstan. Silver, turquoise, and precious stones are intricately woven into stunning patterns, offering a mesmerizing glimpse into Uzbekistan's rich cultural heritage.
To complement the exhibition, cultural celebrations will transport visitors back to the era of the Great Silk Road. The Azerbaijan State Academic Musical Theater will host a captivating ballet performance titled “Lazgi: Dance of Soul and Love," choreographed by Raul Raimondo Rebeca. This ancient folk dance, recognized as part of UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage, will come to life on stage, offering a captivating blend of tradition and artistry.
The exhibition will be on view from March 17 to July 1, 2024.
Earlier, it was reported that Saida Mirziyoyeva, the first assistant to the president of Uzbekistan, has announced the inauguration of the exhibition project "Crafting Uzbekistan: Tradition in Threads" at the Design Biennale in Doha, Qatar.
