The Chairman of the People's Council (Halk Maslahaty) of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, is to visit Uzbekistan. This is according to a letter from Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Berdimuhamedov, published in the local press.
"I am confident that your forthcoming visit to our country will make a worthy contribution to the further development of mutual cooperation, accelerated implementation of the most important joint projects and programmes."

According to the letter, this year Uzbekistan will celebrate the 300th anniversary of the great son of the Turkmen people, the outstanding poet and thinker Makhtumkuli Fraghi.
"The immortal works, incomparable creativity and rich heritage of the great poet, who lived in the ancient city of Khiva in his youth and made an invaluable contribution to the development of Turkic and world literature and global culture, are the common spiritual heritage of our peoples".
Mirziyoyev also noted that the heritage of not only Makhtumkuli, but also such great poets of the Turkmen people as Azadi, Mollanepes, Andalib, Kemine, Zelili and Seidi is currently being taught in schools and higher educational institutions of Uzbekistan.
"We express the hope that the Turkmen side will take an active part in the organisation of the events dedicated to the works of Makhtumkuli, which are planned to be held in Uzbekistan this year".
