In a bid to bolster ties and explore avenues for enhanced cooperation, Aidarbek Saparov, the Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, engaged in discussions with a delegation from Thailand led by Jakkapong Sangmanee, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs on February 22, the Ministry of Agriculture reported. The meeting delved into the potential for mutually beneficial collaboration between the two nations, particularly in the agricultural sector.
Highlighting collaboration in agriculture, Minister Saparov underscored the promising nature of ties between Kazakhstan and Thailand. The bilateral trade turnover in 2023 reached $367mn, showcasing a substantial economic relationship. However, there was a decline in the trade turnover of agricultural products, which amounted to $10.8mn, marking a 30% decrease compared to the previous year.
In response to this decline, Minister Saparov proposed strategies to ramp up the volume of agricultural trade between the two countries. Kazakhstan's vast expanse of pastures, spanning 180 mn hectares, coupled with its robust livestock breeding capabilities, positions the nation as a potential supplier of high-quality meat products, including those meeting halal standards.
"Kazakhstan has enormous potential in the production and export of high-quality agricultural products. We are ready to find partners for the export of meat and grain, and you can see for yourself their high quality. We are also ready to consider the memorandum of cooperation and discuss all the details," emphasized Minister Saparov.
Expressing readiness for collaboration, Deputy Minister Sangmanee conveyed Thailand's willingness to increase investment and explore trade opportunities with the European Union. In this regard, he sought support from Kazakhstan, emphasizing the importance of open trade avenues.
In a gesture of goodwill, the Thai delegation extended an invitation to Kazakh agricultural producers to participate in an upcoming international trade exhibition scheduled to take place in Thailand in May. Additionally, they pledged assistance with logistical and organizational matters.
Concluding the meeting on an optimistic note, Minister Saparov voiced confidence in the prospect of bolstering agricultural cooperation between Kazakhstan and Thailand.
