Every year, tens of thousands of birds of prey perish due to collisions with power lines in Central Asia. Umberto Gallo-Orsi from the UN Environment Programme suggests that the solution could lie in upgrading power supply facilities.
Gallo-Orsi is currently involved in drafting a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at conserving migratory birds of prey.
- Gallo-Orsi stated during a steering committee meeting of the Global Snow Leopard and Ecosystem Protection Program (GSLEP) in Samarkand.
The UN programme official proposed that the issue could be addressed by modernizing existing energy facilities or constructing new ones that are more environmentally friendly. Such measures could potentially save 20,000 birds each year. which is a significant figure.
