President Emomali Rahmon of the Republic of Tajikistan hosted Jeenbek Kulubaev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, on an official visit on February 5, the presidential press service reported. The leaders engaged in discussions that encompassed a wide spectrum of issues central to the Tajik-Kyrgyz relationship and explored avenues for further collaboration.
President Rahmon underscored the pivotal role of robust political dialogue and the cultivation of mutual trust in strengthening the ties between the two nations. The discussions were grounded in the historical bonds of friendship and the principles of good neighborliness that have defined the relationship between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
A key point of focus during the meeting was the progress in determining the Tajik-Kyrgyz state border. President Rahmon acknowledged the strides made over the past four months, highlighting that both parties have successfully outlined nearly 90% of the border, covering approximately 196 kilometers. The leaders expressed commitment to continuing this collaborative effort to comprehensively address border-related issues.
The recent meeting builds on the success of the topographical working groups from both countries, which convened in Botken from January 10 to 15. The groups deliberated on the delimitation and demarcation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border, culminating in an agreement on the 38.35-kilometer section. A formal protocol was signed to document the outcomes, marking a tangible step forward in the ongoing efforts to define and demarcate the border accurately.
Apart from border issues, discussions also encompassed the joint use of transboundary rivers' water resources, as well as the expansion of trade, economic, parliamentary, and other relations between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. The leaders also touched upon regional and international matters of mutual interest.
