Tajikistan's telecom sector achieves 7.8% growth in 2023
In a press conference held by the Communications Service under the Government of Tajikistan, officials announced significant growth in the country's telecom sector, ASIA-Plus reported on January 31. Preliminary estimates shows that the total income of telecom operators and internet providers in the past year reached 3,867,609,467 somoni (over $354 mn). This represents a substantial 7.8% increase compared to the figures reported in 2022, which stood at 3,586,838,000 somoni (around $329 mn).
The press conference shed light on the vibrant landscape of electronic communications in Tajikistan, revealing the presence of 78 companies providing services in this sector. These companies collectively hold an impressive 255 different licenses for various services related to electronic communications.
The total number of electronic communications subscribers in Tajikistan was reported to be 7.8 mn people.
Tojiktelecom, a prominent player in the Tajik telecom sector, was noted for providing services amounting to 158,746,200 somoni (over $14.5 mn) to subscribers.
The deputy head of the Communications Service emphasized the favorable conditions for private sector companies in the telecom sector, stating, "All private sector companies in the telecommunications sector enjoy all available benefits and freely carry out their technical, financial, and economic activities."
In terms of regulatory enforcement, Atoev noted, "Based on the results of consideration of cases of administrative offenses against 98 individuals and legal entities, decisions were made to impose administrative punishment under Articles 350, 351 and 366 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, and 211,700 somoni ($19,396) fines were assessed."
