In a recent directive on January 18, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has called for simplifying the visa regime for domestic cargo carriers operating abroad. The move is prompted by challenges faced by Uzbekistan's cargo carriers, including additional fees imposed in certain countries, complex visa procedures for drivers, incomplete harmonization of weight parameters for vehicles, and a lack of dedicated terminals for storing and processing export goods in ports.
The MIIT of Uzbekistan has been tasked with addressing logistics problems and expediting the implementation of both regional and large international projects.
Furthermore, the meeting highlighted the imperative to intensify efforts in creating strategic railway corridors. Strategic railway connectivity is seen as a key element in facilitating efficient and cost-effective transportation of goods, fostering economic growth, and bolstering regional trade partnerships.
Earlier Daryo reported that starting in January 2024, a series of rigorous border control measures at certain checkpoints along the Belarusian-Russian border has resulted in interruptions in the movement of third-country nationals, notably affecting international cargo transportation. The Ministry of Transport in Uzbekistan has verified the adoption of these rules, which limit the entry and exit through the "Krasnaya Gorka," "Rudnya," and "Krasniy Kamen" checkpoints.
