President Shavkat Mirziyoyev recently reviewed proposals aimed at boosting the tourism sector in Uzbekistan, focusing on measures to increase both domestic and international tourist flow, the president’s press service reported. The initiative aims to leverage the country's rich historical, cultural, and natural attractions, providing year-round appeal to visitors.
One key aspect of the plan involves establishing tourist centers in 12 of the most attractive districts and cities across the country. These centers will operate 24/7, offering amenities such as restaurants, cafes, health facilities, and swimming pools. In addition, resort areas like Zaamin, Chimgan, and Amirsay will feature stores showcasing international brands, national silk fabrics, souvenirs, jewelry, and gold bars. Entrepreneurs operating in these tourist centers will benefit from a substantial 90% reduction in land and property tax rates until January 1, 2027. Furthermore, until March 1, 2026, equipment and technologies required for producing jewelry and gold will be exempt from customs duties.
The introduction of the "Another Day in Uzbekistan" program is set to create "national tourist rings" connecting various tourist sites within regions and "regional tourist rings" linking districts and cities. A Unified Register of Tourist Routes will be maintained by the Tourism Committee to facilitate this program.
The "Travel in Every Season" initiative aims to promote diverse forms of tourism throughout the year, including environmental, extreme, medical, health, water, resort, and ski tourism. Festivals will mark the beginning of each tourist season, enhancing the overall experience for visitors.
In a bid to showcase Uzbekistan's unique silk fabrics internationally, an International Fashion Week, named "Silk Fabrics of Uzbekistan," will be held biennially in May with a substantial prize fund of $2mn.
To boost the country's tourism potential abroad, the introduction of "tourism ambassadors" by the Tourism Committee is planned. This initiative aims to actively promote Uzbekistan's attractions on the global stage.
The proposals also include measures to support artisans, develop medical tourism, and incorporate international best practices into tourism education. Preferential loans will be allocated for the construction of campsites, yurts, eco-houses, hostels, and hotel swimming pools. Entrepreneurs will receive further support through a two-year exemption of customs duties on equipment and inventory for hotels, shopping malls, swimming pools, and water parks.
President Mirziyoyev has given his approval to these comprehensive proposals and has instructed officials to focus on the further development of ecotourism and the creation of necessary conditions to facilitate travel for persons with disabilities.
Recently, Daryo reported that President Mirziyoyev has examined a presentation outlining plans for the development of trade and tourism infrastructure. The primary focus is on unlocking the tourism potential of the country, aligning with directives issued by the President in a meeting held in December 2023. A notable initiative involves the construction of a modern recreation center in Miraki, Shakhrisabz region, with the aim of promoting mountain tourism. Similar facilities are also in the pipeline for the villages of Nurobod and Kumushkon in the Parkent district. Additionally, there is a project underway for a tourist hub on the Maydanak plateau in Kashkadarya, envisioning the conversion of lightweight structures into hostels and repurposing existing buildings for trade and services.
