Head of the Customs Control Department of the State Customs of Turkmenistan Agoyli Niyazov met with Head of the Lotfabad customs post in Iran Korban Karimi at the Artyk customs post bordering Iran.
The parties reviewed the prospects for the development of road freight transport through the Artyk-Lotfabad customs posts.
The issues of increasing the work time of Artyk-Lotfabad officials, simplifying the issuance of visas for truck drivers and reducing waiting time through expedited cargo inspection were discussed, the Turkmen side reports.
"The issue of repairing the Iranian part of the road running between customs posts was also raised. Mutual understanding and readiness to continue interaction were achieved on all issues discussed."
Iran and Turkmenistan, neighbours on the Caspian Sea, share a 1,100km land border. Turkmenistan has four checkpoints on its border with Iran: near Bajigiran, Lotfabad, IncheBurun and Sarakhs.
Experts told Daryo that the Iranian side is studying the possibility of turning Sarakhs into a special economic zone to develop cooperation with Turkmenistan and other Central Asian countries, especially Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
