Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) reports that the company's leadership held a meeting with Murad Artykov, Turkmenistan's head of international energy projects.
The company emphasises in a press release that "with the increase in imported electricity from Turkmenistan, electricity shortage problems in the north west zone of Afghanistan will be completely resolved." This will have a positive impact on domestic production, economy, agriculture, and business development.
The parties discussed the progress of the project to increase the capacity of the Noorul Jihad substation in Afghanistan's Herat province.
DABS requested the Turkmen side to finalize the proposals, corrections, preparation of documents "so that the work of project can be completed without delay."
The project involves increasing the capacity of the substation from 110 kilovolts to 220 kilovolts.
Experts told Daryo that in recent years Ashgabat has built the Turkmen-Afghan power lines Imamnazar-Andkhoy, Serhetabat-Herat and Rabatkashan-Kalainau and towards the city of Mazar-e-Sharif at its own expense.
All these directions fit into the concept of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) transmission line project. According to various estimates, transit services could generate more than $100mn a year for the Afghan treasury.
