The share of transit oil from Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan transported through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline in 2023 was 5.2mn tonnes, which is 2.7% more than in the previous year, the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan reports.
The length of the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey oil pipeline with a capacity of 50mn tonnes is 1,768,000km. Its shareholders are: BP; SOCAR; MOL; Equinor; TPAO; ENI; Itochu; ExxonMobil; INPEX, TotalEnergies and ONGC-Videsh.
In total, 30.1mn tonnes of oil was pumped through the BTC during the period under review, an increase of 1.5% over the previous year.
Experts told Daryo that the transport of turkmen oil, delivered by tankers across the Caspian Sea, had intensified a few years ago.
International trader Vitol, a partner of Turkmenistan's Napeco, has agreed with Azerbaijan's state oil company SOCAR to transport 1.0mn tonnes a year.
The crude typically comes from Caspian fields where Dragon Oil (UAE) and ENI (Italy) operate under Production Sharing agreements.
