In 2023, a significant shift was observed in the flour trade dynamics between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. According to Enegryprom.kz, Uzbekistan purchased 440,700 tons of Kazakh flour in the first 10M 2023. This marked a 33.3% increase compared to the same period in 2022.
Monetary terms
In monetary terms, the value of imports increased from $107.8mn to $133.2mn. This surge positioned Uzbekistan as the main buyer of this product among the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries.
Flour amounting to 1 mn tons and valued at $296mn was exported to nations beyond the CIS, including the USA. The majority of this volume, specifically 994,000 tons, was received by Afghanistan, which is 8% less compared to the previous year.
Kazakhstan’s flour export
Kazakhstan, on the other hand, supplied a total of 1.5 mn tons of flour abroad for $464.7mn in the period from January to October. This indicates the significant role of Uzbekistan in Kazakhstan’s flour export market, accounting for nearly 29.4% of the total volume.
Record volume of supplies
It is noteworthy that from January to July, Uzbekistan imported flour from Kazakhstan amounting to 308,400 tons. This volume was the highest in five years, underscoring the growing demand for Kazakh flour in Uzbekistan.
