Tajikistan has agreed with Azerbaijan on the implementation of an investment project on the commissioning of an oil refinery in the "Dangara" free economic zone, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan reports.
It is noted that during the negotiations between the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan, Zavqi Zavqizoda, and the Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan, Mikayil Jabbarov, agreements were reached on other joint investment projects in the industrial sector.
In particular, the parties discussed the implementation of projects on the creation of hydroelectric power plants in Tajikistan, the increase of production capacity of "TALCO" (Tajik aluminum company), and the creation of agro-industrial clusters.
In addition, the parties agreed to deliver Tajikistan's primary aluminum, cryolite, and aluminum fluoride to Azerbaijan, and aluminum oxide from Azerbaijan to Tajikistan, while providing discounts on their transportation by rail. A bilateral working group was formed to develop specific measures for the implementation of the projects.
As per the Ministry of Economy of Tajikistan, during the ten months of 2023, the trade between the two countries increased by 1.5 times compared to the same period last year. As per the State Committee for Investment and State Property Management of Tajikistan, the volume of mutual trade between the republic and Azerbaijan amounted to $6.2mn at the end of 2022, an increase of 2% compared to 2021.
